Hornibrook Bridge - The Demolition

Okay, the bridge is being demolished after 75 years. How do you feel about this? Have you got something to say to the producers (Redgum Television Productions) of the documentary? What do you feel should be done with those valuable timbers extracted from the site?
Maybe you have other questions?

  1. Hey, would love a little piece of the bridge when it's pulled down.

  2. I'm sad to see the bridge go. My Dad died in a car crash on the Clontarf hump 26 Feb 1975. I was only 9 and since then that bridge has been 'sacred ground'. But he didn't die alone; there is another family who suffered a great loss that day.
Last Friday was the first time I've been on that bridge since then. I finally got to say goodbye to Dad. Only now do I have peace with his death.
I would like to see some of the timber used to erect memorials at either end of the bridge dedicated to all those who's lives ended on the bridge
Selfishly, I'd like a little piece of the timbers from that location. Not sure what to do with it, I just don't like the thought of it vanishing forever.

  3. The personal and public history of this bridge is profound. So many people have had their life affected by its presence. Russell, feel free to contact Redgum Television Production, www.redgumtv.com.au and we can talk about including your story that represents so many others. John

  4. Have to agree with Russell, apart from it being sad to see it being taken down, a monument to those who have been born, died or other significant events directly related to the bridge, would be very appropriate. Having travelled it during the construction of the new megalith, I had hoped it would remain as a cycle path and fishing platform, but as per usual with anything of age in QLD, down she comes, no respect to history and its retention as in Europe!

  5. Hugh, that's the primary reason Redgum is making this documentary. To our way of thinking it's the best way to preserve what little record we have left.
